Bought two Commodore 64′s off ebay for cheap. New case mod project.

So I won a bid and recieved my two Commodore 64′s. These babies are gonna be painted bright orange. They were sold as-is with no video cables or power adapters. I ended up paying $45 after shipping. Next on the list is to find a working power supply.

The power brick for the Commodore computers are huge and use both AC and DC. So building my own would be too hard. Searching ebay for power supplies is harder than shopping for engagement rings. There’s a limited supply and most sellers can’t test them. Google product search has a few but are really expensive.

More about my c64 project after the jump.

Luckily an ebay user named Basicwayne27 builds heavy duty PSU bricks. I bought one for about twenty bucks a few days ago. Today I walked to the post office and picked up my package got home and plugged in my c64′s. Luckily the LED powers on.

On the back of the c64 there’s a simple rca out. I plugged in to my TV but no video. I realized that I needed a RF switch to get video working. I haven’t seen one of those since I had the NES plugged into my 10″ crt tv. Nowadays we all have huge HDTV’s. I found a couple c64 s-video cables on ebay. They are hopefully on my way to my doorstep.

Next is on my list cleaning and bleaching the case. Then clean the keyboard and sand the case. Then painting.

I’ll post some pictures of my progress on my next post.
