Don’t be a fool! Get rich from your stool!
“Stop pooping for free! You could be flushing thousands down the toilet!”
Vivian Tu, commonly known by her handle your.richBFF is a former Wall Street trader turned personal finance coach and influencer. Her specialty focuses on money-making and saving strategies for younger generations.
However, many of her tips can be applied to anyone who just wants to save more money, make more money, or have their money work for them.
The 30-Under-30 honoree recently dropped a video on her Instagram account, seemingly made for the Poopable staff to say, “Amen,” followed by a flush of the toilet.
The short clip informs her 1.7-million follower audience that their is money-making potential in poo.
The video, which has garnered over 55,000 likes, highlights two organizations that offer programs for potential poop donors. Interested poopers would have to apply via website and screen to eventually become regular paid stool donors.
For example, the GoodNature Program offers $25-to-$75 per on site dump.
However, the real money, according to Vivian Tu, is if you can finesse your way into the Human Microbes poop donation program. The Human Microbes’ website and Tu confirm, “If your poo is exceptional, Human Microbes offers $500 per stool donation, meaning you can net up to $180,000 a year.”
The question ultimately arises, why would an ethically minded organization want to pay a pooper for a world class poop?
According to our new rich BFF, “you can sell your poop for money because medical companies need your good gut bacteria to treat patients with digestive problems.”
She is correct!
Poopable is here to inform you, the concept of legitimized poop donation is known as “fecal microbiota transplantation” (FMT) or “fecal bacteriotherapy.”
FMT involves the transfer of fecal matter from a healthy donor to a recipient to restore or improve the recipient’s gut microbiota.
However, it is important to note that the process of selling stool samples for research or FMT is typically regulated, and it is not a widely accessible or necessarily a completely viable method of making money. It often involves strict donor eligibility criteria, rigorous screening processes, and ethical considerations.
Tu highlights that different companies will have different criteria for their dump donors. For example, you must be 18-years or older, must be a non-smoker, cannot have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, cannot be overweight nor have any history of gastro disease.
Essentially, if you have paid-for-poop dreams, you’re going to have to be young, maintain outstanding physical condition and be able to prove a clean-living lifestyle to boot.
So, if you’re still intrigued and think you have the most money ridden poops, it would be recommended to consult with reputable medical institutions or research organizations that conduct FMT studies or clinical trials for further information.
Regulations and guidelines regarding FMT may vary across different regions or university, so it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the specific requirements in your area if you’re interested in pursuing this avenue.
Another organization that facilitates the collection and processing of fecal samples for various purposes, is OpenBiome.
OpenBiome is a nonprofit organization based in the United States. OpenBiome collects and provides screened and processed fecal samples for use in FMT procedures.
Some other options include:
- The American Gut Project: This is a research initiative that aims to study the human microbiome and its relationship to health. They accept fecal samples for analysis and offer insights into an individual’s gut microbiome composition.
- Taconic Biosciences: Taconic Biosciences is a biotechnology company that provides research models and services. They offer fecal microbiota transplant services for preclinical research purposes.
- Academic Research Institutions: Various universities and research institutions around the world conduct studies on the human microbiome and may accept fecal samples for research purposes. These institutions often have ongoing studies and clinical trials related to gut health and may have protocols in place for collecting and analyzing fecal samples. So, check out your old alma mater!
It is safe to assume that making a living, selling poop is not completely reasonable. However, for those poopers out there, that meet the relatively stringent criteria, and have absolutely no issue packaging and mailing their fresh poop, it’s worth a try.
The applications process for the organizations requires less than an hour of your time. The acceptance process can take a few months, but a $500 to $1000 a month return on doing what we all do daily can be well worth the… strain.
