Airline could be the poop culprit!
Burnsville, Minnesota residents beware! If you did not think poop could fall from the sky, think again!
This past week, residents of the small Midwest town were showered upon by a stinky brown colored rain while waiting in a drive-thru coffee lane.
Fortunately, the witnesses were in their idling vehicles.
According to CBS news, Carisa Browne was sitting in her car in the Caribou Coffee drive-thru off Highway 13 and Cliff Road in Burnsville.
“It was like it rained brown for a second, boom, like that. I got out and I went to the car in front of me and I was like, ‘What just happened to us?’”
“It was poop.”
Browne’s child, who was also in the car, noted that the brown rain smelled terrible!
Browne told the local news crew, “”The odor was so strong that the woman who was handing me my coffee noted how much it smelled.”
Other bystanders noted that their were no birds nearby. This would be the likely culprit of sky poop, but as many poopers out there know, bird poop is not brown.
Browne, who was schooled as an aircraft mechanic, believes the poop rain may have fallen from an airline jet flying overhead. She noted that the town is underneath a common flightpath for major airlines like, United Airlines.
The local news team did reach out to The Metropolitan Airports Commission. The commission responded in kind and stated, “they are not aware of any incidents related to flight activity.”
The staff at Poopable has reached out to United Airlines for comment. However, our inbox still awaits a reply…
The incident in Brownsville raises a poignant question…
Do airplanes dump passengers poop midair?
We did some hopeful digging as the staff unanimously agreed that nobody deserves a poop shower.
Short answer, no. Planes typically don’t.
Modern airplanes do not intentionally dump poop or waste from the sky. Airplanes are equipped with onboard waste storage systems, typically referred to as lavatory tanks, which are designed to contain and store human waste and other liquids during flights.
According to the Federal Aviation Commission (FAA) and a litany of other federal authorities, dumping waste from airplanes mid-flight is strictly prohibited due to safety and environmental concerns.
Airlines and aviation authorities have strict regulations and procedures in place to ensure proper waste management and disposal. After a flight, the ground crew members at the airport handle the process of emptying and disposing of the waste from the onboard tanks.
All of this is in accordance with regulations and safety procedures.
Generally, waste is frozen, along with the disinfectant that you see in a standard toilet in something called “Blue Ice.” While Blue Ice has been portrayed being deposited as a plot point in the shows like Six Feet Under, Early Edition, and The Big Bang Theory, as well as being featured the movie Joe Dirt and being addressed by Mythbusters it’s comforting to know that the myth of Blue Ice falling from the sky has indeed been busted.
However, these are the current regulations, and this is specific to the United States. So, this does not mean poop has not been falling in the sky in the past or in other countries.
